Metzinger and Rothermel Take Top Spots at Dirt Riot in Kentucky

Dirt Riot Endurance Racing held their first Eastern Series race of the year this past weekend at Dirty Turtle Offroad Park in Bedford, KY. Weather was once again a factor at the Northern Kentucky venue, adding to the difficulty of the fast short course, tight wood sections and hill climbs. The forecast for rain held off for the race itself, but torrential downpours leading up to the event made for very sloppy course conditions.

Action started off Friday with qualifying rounds for the Stock UTV and Pro UTV classes. The drivers lined up Saturday morning for the main race, competing against one another and battling against the course for spots on the podium.

The first lap of the Pro UTV class was extremely competitive with a difference of only 31 seconds separating the front to the back of the pack. Michael Cox of Winchester, VA held the lead for the first two laps of the race. Issues to Cox’s UTV on lap three allowed Levi Metzinger of Shamokin, PA to catch up and take the lead on the third lap with Kenn Hite following closely behind him in second. Cox was able to recover and grab back a position on lap four to get back into second place. It was a battle of attrition as UTVs encountered multiple issues on the course.

Levi Metzinger held on for the win, followed by Cox and Hite to land on the podium for the Pro UTV class. Jason Vansickle and Sean Mathis rounded out the top five.

In the stock class, Logan Rothermel of Etters, PA and Gregory Sharp JR of Campbellsburg, KY battled each other throughout the day with both completing all eight laps. Rothermel was able to hold his lead through the race, but with less than eight minutes separating the two, it was an extremely competitive race.

Dirt Riot returns to action April, 20 at Rausch Creek Off Road Park in Tremont, PA.
